Every Sunday* in June, July, and August of 2014 the Henry Miller Memorial Library, located in Big Sur, CA, will turn off the lights and turn on the sound. *(check our schedule for exceptions!)

Visitors will lay out on our lawn beneath a canopy of towering redwood trees, under the stars, steps from the Pacific Ocean, and listen to carefully-selected audio stories played through our world-class sound system.

Most installments will be curated by the most innovative purveyors of audio in the English-speaking world, including The Truth, The Moth, The Kitchen Sisters, Third Coast International Audio FestivalDinner Party Download, Wiretap, Radiotopia, Snap Judgement, and Unfictional!! More TBA.

We are also looking for audio submissions for this years competition and for the listening nights we will curate in-house!  We are interested in two categories: Fiction and Documentary.

Big Sur Sound and Story Jury will then select “the best of the best.”

At the end of the summer, our illustrious jury (we recently added Bob Edwards of NPR legendary fame to our jury!) will select the three “best of the best” and the winning selections will be played at our gala finale, Sunday September 7.

Each programs will include both fiction and nonfiction.  Length will be 1.5 – 2 hours total.  Admission is by donation. Our 2014 summer schedule is here!

  1. Can reccomendations be submitted for other story tellers? Michael Meade and Jon Young are a couple that i think the audience would appreciate.

  2. Any need to pre-register/RSVP if I plan to attend? It would be a shame to be turned away (especially after a long drive down from SF)!
